China UnionPay, also known as UnionPay or abbreviated, CUP, is a global payment network that is accepted in 160 regions of the country.
It is the only card service organization in the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Founded on March 26, 2002, China UnionPay is a banking services card association for the banking Card Industry in China, operating under the approval of the People’s Bank of China (PBOC, or Central Bank of China).
CUP as well as the only network between the Bank of China Hong Kong and Macao, It is also the only interbank network in China excluding Hong Kong and Macau, Connect all the ATMs of all banks in the Territory mainland and widely accepted by ATMs in Hong Kong and Macao. This is also in the form of an EFTPOS (Electronic Funds Transfer at Point of Sale) network or electronic funds transfer at the point of sale.
UnionPay cards can be used in more than 100 regions of the world, making it the third largest payment network based on transaction processing values, after Visa and MasterCard. Some UnionPay Credit Cards are also affiliated with American Express, MasterCard or Visa, and can be used abroad such as American Express, MasterCard or Visa. Since 2006, the China UnionPay Card can be used in 100 countries outside of China.
